Vermeil Gold Interconnects Vermeil has its tradition set in the jewelry industry and by definition is a gold plated sterling silver. We have taken the name to describe our entry level cable, but our wire is far from jewelry grade. First our wire drawn and plated to our strict specifications. We incorporate a 99.99% pure gold plating over a 99.99% pure soft temper annealed solid silver wire. This provides the unprecedented coefficient of resistance only found in silver while providing the sonic richness of gold. Not only does this create a conductor beyond the performance of any other material, but due to gold’s resistance to corrosion, these wires are not prone to the drop in performance associated with tarnishing. The other benefit is of course cost, for a fraction of the cost of solid gold, Vermeil wire provided 90% of the performance and 1/5th the cost. The downside of this conductor is it is still silver, and it retains the characteristics of silver wire. The high frequencies tend to be slightly accentuated and the wrong system silver can sound quite bright and edgy. The gold plating has reduced this negative aspect of silver a great deal, but it is still not perfect. Only the solid gold wire is able to perform with no weaknesses. |
